If you’re anything like me, you’ve always dreamed of spending Christmas at a spa. The Malvern Spa in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside is offering great value packages over the Christmas period including the 2 night stay on the 24th & 25th December. You’ll be greeted with sherry and mince pies (how else?) and in the evening a three course dinner is served in the beautiful dinning hall. The package even includes breakfast on boxing day and one mini treatment….all for £230 per person.
Malvern Spa Hotel
The journey down to Elgar Country is a long one. Six-and-half hour’s drive via the M6, but one that’s worth it. We arrive in the pretty town of Malvern just as the sun is setting over Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point of the Malvern Hills, and are more than ready for the calm oasis that is The MalvernSpa Hotel.
Built on the site of the original 1910 Malvern spa, it sits in the middle of a business park which slightly detracts from the zen quality of the spa itself. However, once at reception there’s an instant air of calm, from the mellow tones of the computerised voice in the lift telling you that the doors are opening, to the tray stocked with camomile and peppermint tea in the well-furnished, Italian-style en-suite room.
Next day gives us a chance to sightsee a little of historic Malvern, a town famous for its water as well as being the birthplace of composer Edward Elgar.
Later, before the delights of a luxurious massage, I take to the hydro-pool in my attempt to escape the stresses and strains of modern life. After a quick swim round the various jots and whirlpool baths, I try out what’s described in the hotel information as the “thermal rituals’. First up is the rustic-style Kelo sauna. Then the herb sauna, where essential oils and seasonal herbs are gently steamed to cleanse body and mind, and the crystal steam room, to open the pores and relieve tension. My favourite, though, is the Salt Grotto, a room to restore the respiratory system, skin and body.
On to the spa itself, where I’m exfoliated and expertly treated to a 90-minute massage, then shown to the relaxation suite where I snuggle into a deep comfortable sofabed watching a projection of a logfire, with its crackling sound effects, along the facing wall.
The time to make the trip back home to Glasgow comes round far to soon, but thoughts of a return visit are not far from my mind.
The MalvernSpa offers spa breaks from £120 per person per night including breakfast and a treatment. Visit www.themalvernspa.com or call 01684 808290.

Helpful Tips and Articles from Savvy Cinderella – Specialists in Bridal Gowns to Hire or buy 01354 688138
Brides2Be and their Bridesmaids will often tell me when they came to Savvy Cinderella of their plans to have their Hen Parties in different places and experience different things, from a week in Egypt to a weekend at Alton Towers, it is great to relax altogether as a group, before the big day. I am in the very luck position that I sometimes get to hear of new products and services, which I can then pass on to my brides2be. I have recently heard about The Malvern Spa, where they have launched Lily Lolo cosmetics, and offer a make-over service, which may be a wonderful treat for any bride2be, mother of the bride (and groom) and of course bridesmaids.
The photo’s of your wedding are with you forever, so it does pay to look your absolute best, and a day at a Spa is a perfect way to relax and try out a new look. Makeovers are great fun, and like wedding dresses, it often takes someone seeing you with fresh eyes to see your absolute best features, and to help you make the most of them. A day having a make-over would make a great part of your Hen Party, or as a pre-wedding treat just for you.
Claire, from the SpaPRCompany looks after The Malvern Spa, she said “If you’re still searching for that near impossible airbrushed complexion and the perfect products to achieve the flawless look as seen on the Autumn/Winter cat walks this season, then maybe it’s time to get your paws on some mineral makeup! “Lily Lolo Mineral Cosmetics and The Malvern, create the perfect partnership both offering guests the ultimate pampering experience as well as sharing eco-aware credentials. The Malvern Spa’s eco-credentials include its own bore-hole accessing the world famous Malvern Spring waters 200m below the earth’s surface; solar panels to generate electricity; a heat recovery systems which reclaims heat from the pool and re-circulates this around the building; and lighting in public areas which works on movement sensors to automatically switch off when the area is unused. Lily Lolo Cosmetics are also cruelty free and BUAV approved and won The Green Beauty Bible award for the best foundation and finishing partner.”
When I visit America, my favourite store is in the Florida Mall, offering a range of mineral cosmetics. I always go when Nick ai at a Game store with kids, because I want time to try out the new products, and as the store is always so busy, I need time to be able to speak to the assistants there. I love the mineral make-up, and I have been looking forward to it coming over here.
Now celebrity fans such as Cheryl Cole and Paris Hilton are enjoying the products, particularly due to its reputation for soothing problematic skin which makes it a great choice for young women, or those with oily skin. The Malvern will also be offering Lily Lolo Mineral cosmetic make-over, so to get the perfect book for your wedding day, book for your make-over appointment now!

Ignore the unlikely setting in an industrial estate on the outskirts of town: once inside, MalvernSpa is small but perfect.
The 90-minute MalvernSpa signature massage starts with an invigorating sea salt body scrub, followed by a truly divine, deeply relaxing full body massage with REN Moroccan rose oil and rose body cream. My sister had the REN Radiance Lift Cell Renewal Facial (£70), which left her skin glowing for days.
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?
Try the indoor-outdoor hydrotherapy pool, fed, of course, by Malvern natural spring water – outside, the view of the Malvern Hills is bliss. The crystal steam room, salt grotto, and herb and Arctic style saunas are fun; if you feel brave, scoop crushed ice over yourself at the Ice Fountain. Food, served in sensible portions, is deliciously filling, with plenty of dishes having fewer than 400 calories.
The signature massage costs £75, the Radiance facial £70. A one-night B&B break for two, with facial, mini manicure and use of facilities, costs £264 (Sunday to Thursday, 30 November – 31 January 2011). Visit themalvernspa.com or call 01684 898290 for more information.
COOL, calm and elegant – the recently opened Malvern Spa live up to every expectation you could have of a spa. From the understated yet luxurious Grand Salon to the beautiful appointed treatment rooms, and the hydro-spa area with its indoor-outdoor hydrotherapy pool, this is a spa that positively seduces you into relaxing, making you reluctant to leave.
A hot-stone massage is one of those treatments everyone should indulge themselves in at least once lowering stress levels to the undetectable and delivering the delicious (and all-too rare) sensation of being thoroughly pampered.
The thermal suite offers a combination of experiences, starting with the healing properties of the Salt Grotto, moving through the Crystal Steam room. Herb Sauna and on to the Artic sauna, which belies its name with temperatures up to 90C. To close the pores on leaving each experience, there’s the choice of the bucket shower for a fast and furious cool down (we passed!) or rubbing crushed ice from the central fountain into your skin.
Adjoining the thermal suite is the hydrotherapy pool, filed with the world-famous natural Malvern spring waters, fitted with hydrojets and integral seating. With the indoor pool linked to the outdoor area, it’s a lovely place to sit lapped by warm spring waters or gently massaged by them.
Our visit ended with dinner in the Gallery Restaurant, where the food was as elegant and delicious as our afternoon of indulgence. As lovely to eat as it was to look at – a starter of salmon three ways so exquisite it was – almost – a shame to eat it.
Malvern Spa offers a fabulous range of day packages, starting at just £65 on weekdays and a Twilight Spa experience for only £55 – the perfect antidote to the stress of a working day.
